HBA1c and Average Blood Sugar Levels

posted on

BA1c is a measure of your average blood glucose level over the past two to three months.

Normal levels are around 5%. For diagnosed diabetics a value of below 7% is considered to be favorable. If tracked on a regular basis, the HBA1c level can be used to gauge the overall control of a patient's diabetes.

Recently a HBA1c level of over 6.5% measured on two occasions is regarded as a diagnosis of diabetes, without any other test being required. (WHO)

The table below converts a HBA1c reading to the average blood glucose level it represents. The figures are approximate.
